Three rows of embarrassment
Don't have a whole blog post thought out for today, so I'll just put up my thoughts from when I was grabbing lunch today instead:
Isn't it embarrassing to drive around in a huge three row SUV all by yourself? Why is that the vehicle you choose to pick up a burrito? You don't need all that size and mass and fuel consumption! You look stupid!
There are reasons to get an SUV, I get it. But when they get that big and expensive, you just look dumb.
This also seems like as good a post as any to plug the book Life After Cars, written by the hosts of The War on Cars podcast. It's a good book full of statistics, history, and anecdotes from activists. A lot of it will be very familiar to anyone that has listened to the podcast or generally watched/read/listened to recent media about urbanism, but it's nice to have all in one place with an extensive list of sources and references like in the book, and it'll likely still have something new to learn! I recommend it to anyone interested in urbanism and to anyone that doesn't know what it's all about.
I recently received a (free!) signed bookplate from the authors through their Patreon since I wasn't able to make it to any of the stops on their book tour and get my copy signed directly. All they asked in exchange was to share something about it on social media, so I'm making good on that.
